FIORDLAND: MOUNTAIN JOURNEYS – a photo book by Grant Dixon and Ian Brown

Fiordland is New Zealand’s largest wilderness – a vast maze of mountains, sheer-sided valleys, dense forest, and dauntingly high rainfall. Consequently, it presents some of the most challenging tramping and transalpine terrain in the country. These challenges appealed to author/photographers Grant Dixon and Ian Brown. Over many trips across decades, they have traversed the length and breadth of Fiordland, mostly off-track and on the tops, tackling steep routes and frequent storms while climbing numerous mountains along the way.

Both Dixon and Brown are accomplished photographers and FIORDLAND: MOUNTAIN JOURNEYS is a stunning portrait of wild Fiordland, country most people never experience from the ground. The hard cover, 30cm x 25cm, 254 page book, contains 176 of their best images, illustrating 17 essays describing the highlights of some of their journeys, interspersed with a series of thematic photo folios. The book provides a unique perspective on what makes greater Fiordland such an outstanding region in a country already brimming with extraordinary backcountry.

FIORDLAND: MOUNTAIN JOURNEYS is published by Potton and Burton, a prominent and independent New Zealand publisher based in Nelson, with a diverse list of New Zealand non-fiction books and a strong focus on natural history, the environment and outdoor recreation.
